On February 9, 2025, the Archdiocese of Toronto celebrated Marriage Sunday, recognizing married couples throughout the archdiocese who have demonstrated a beautiful witness of love and fidelity. At the local level, many parishes have special initiatives to honour married couples and affirm the Sacrament of Matrimony. A large archdiocesan celebration took place at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica, bringing 300 couples celebrating milestone wedding anniversaries (25th, 40th, 50th, 60 and 60+) in 2025. In total, close to 12,000 years of married life were represented in the celebration.
Couples were joined by family and friends, filling the cathedral for a beautiful Mass where couples renewed their vows and received a special blessing. The Most Rev. Ivan Camilleri, Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Toronto, presided at Mass, expressing gratitude to the married couples for their faithful witness, encouraging them to draw on their faith and the covenant made with one another and God to support couples through the ups and downs of married life.
We continue to pray for married couples and all those preparing for marriage. May God sustain them and support them as companions on the journey.
