On Wednesday, February 19, more than 1,200 Catholics from the Eastern Pastoral Region gathered at St. Barnabas Parish in Scarborough to launch the Year of Jubilee and give thanks for the elevation of Frank Cardinal Leo to the College of Cardinals.
Participants came from all parts of the Eastern Pastoral Region, from Scarborough to Oshawa, Pickering, Whitby and Ajax to celebrate together. It was beautiful to see hundreds arriving early to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The Year of Jubilee Cross, commissioned by the archdiocese, was also present as Cardinal Leo celebrated Mass and invited the faithful to consider how they can be pilgrims of hope throughout this Jubilee Year. Bishop Vincent Nguyen, Auxiliary Bishop with responsibility for the Eastern Pastoral Region was in attendance along with many Eastern Region priests who concelebrated.
Special thanks to Fr. Hansoo Park, pastor of the parish along with the many volunteers who helped organize a beautiful Mass and reception. We also extend our gratitude to all attendees who navigated challenging driving conditions to make the journey to St. Barnabas for this joy filled celebration.
