Pope Francis spoke before an audience of 200 bishops, Indigenous delegates and supporters, delivering an apology for the conduct of some members of the Catholic Church in Canada's residential school system.
Pope Francis has apologized for members of the Catholic Church who co-operated with Canada's "devastating" policy of Indigenous residential schools. He began his Canadian visit by meeting with Indigenous peoples, First Nations, Métis and Inuit at the former Ermineskin Residential School in Maskwacis, Alta.
