Keynote Speaker: Julianne Stanz
Storyteller, encourager and author, Julianne Stanz is the Director of Discipleship and Parish Life for the Diocese of Green Bay, Wisconsin. She is passionate about parish life and has been a consultant to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for ten years. She currently serves on the USCCB Committee on Catechesis and Evangelization and is a member of the Eucharistic Revival Executive Team. Julianne has been profoundly influenced by her life growing up in Ireland. She is the author of the books “Braving the Thin Places: Celtic Wisdom to Create a Space for Grace” and “Start with Jesus: How everyday disciples will renew the Church” published by Loyola Press. Principal Celebrant and Homilist: Cardinal Thomas Collins, Archbishop of Toronto
Born and raised in Guelph, Ontario, Cardinal Thomas Collins was ordained a priest in 1973. He considered other paths but was inspired by a high school English teacher who suggested he should consider the priesthood.
He earned undergraduate and master’s degrees in English, later pursuing theological training in Rome. Specializing in the Book of Revelation, he earned his licentiate in sacred scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute and a doctorate in theology from Gregorian University.
He was named Bishop of St. Paul, Alberta in 1997 and Archbishop of Edmonton in 1999. Pope Benedict XVI appointed Archbishop Collins as Archbishop of Toronto in December 2006. On February 18, 2012, he was elevated to the College of Cardinals in Rome. Cardinal Collins was one of 115 cardinal-electors to participate in the 2013 conclave in Rome, where Pope Francis was elected to succeed Pope Benedict XVI.
Roundtable Panelist: Bishop John A. Boissonneau, Auxiliary Bishop - Northern Pastoral Region
Bishop John A. Boissonneau is Auxiliary Bishop of Toronto with responsibility for the Northern Region that includes 52 parishes in the York Region and Simcoe County. Bishop Boissonneau was born in Toronto and ordained to the priesthood on December 14, 1974. He served at the Chancery office and after graduate studies served from 1982 until 2001 in the education of priests at St. Augustine’s Seminary of Toronto. In addition to his regional responsibilities, he is also Vicar for Christian Education and Archdiocesan Liaison with the Catholic Faculties of Theology.
Roundtable Panelist: Bishop Vincent Nguyen, Auxiliary Bishop - Eastern Pastoral Region
Bishop Vincent Hieu Nguyen is Auxiliary Bishop of Toronto with responsibility for the Eastern Region which includes 40 parishes and missions in Scarborough and Durham Region. Bishop Nguyen was born in Saigon, Vietnam arriving in Canada in 1984. After completing his high school education in Toronto, he achieved a Bachelor of Applied Science (Electrical Engineering) from the University of Toronto in 1991. He earned his Masters of Divinity from St. Augustine's Seminary of Toronto in 1998. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 9, 1998. Bishop Nguyen was awarded a licentiate in Canon Law from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum), Rome in 2008. He was appointed Vice-Chancellor of Spiritual Affairs in August 2008. In September 2009, Bishop Nguyen was appointed as Chancellor of Spiritual Affairs and Moderator of the Curia. On November 6, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of Toronto. His episcopal ordination took place at St. Michael's Cathedral in Toronto on January 13, 2010.
In addition to his regional responsibilities, Bishop Nguyen is also the Vicar for Permanent Deacons.
Roundtable Panelist: Bishop Robert Kasun, CSB, Auxiliary Bishop - Central Pastoral Region
Robert Kasun was born on December 20, 1951, and raised in Cudworth, Saskatchewan, in the former Benedictine Abbacy of Muenster. After high school he attended St. Thomas More College in Saskatoon, where he met the Basilian Fathers, the religious congregation he joined after graduating with a Bachelor's degree in English. Following his novitiate he continued his studies, earning a Master of Divinity from the University of St. Michael’s College in Toronto, and then Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from the University of Toronto.
Following ordination to the priesthood in 1978, Father Kasun commenced his teaching ministry in Basilian schools in Merrillville, Indiana; Sudbury, Ontario; and his longest assignment, at St. Michael’s College School in Toronto. He also served as Vocations Director for the Basilian Fathers based in Rochester, New York, and as a teacher at St. Francis High School in Calgary. He served on the General Council of the Basilian Fathers from 1989 to 1997 as Regional Representative for Western Canada and as Vice-President of the Canadian Religious Conference Western Division.
Bishop Kasun was appointed as an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Toronto on June 17, 2016. His episcopal ordination was held on September 12, 2016, at St. Joseph Basilica Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Edmonton.
As Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Toronto, Bishop Kasun oversees care of the pastoral needs of the Central Pastoral Region.
Roundtable Panelist: Bishop Ivan Camilleri, Auxiliary Bishop - Western Pastoral Region
Bishop Ivan Camilleri is Auxiliary Bishop of Toronto with responsibility for the Western Region, which includes 72 parishes in the western part of the City of Toronto and the Regional Municipality of Peel-Dufferin. In addition to his regional responsibilities, he is also Vicar for Religious and Liaison for Liturgy.
