Office of Social Care & Community Outreach

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
    because he has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
                                                            Luke 4:18-19

On January 1, 2025, Cardinal Leo launched the Office of Social Care and Community Outreach which will establish and maintain relationships with individuals, organizations, parishes and advocacy groups. The office will coordinate and accompany works of social care and advocacy throughout the archdiocese, enabling active engagement in life issues and contemporary social and ecclesial matters guided by the principals of Catholic social teaching in view of contributing to an authentic culture of life and a civilization of love. As Catholics, we are inspired by the example and teaching of Christ in bringing about and spreading His kingdom in our midst through works of mercy, justice and charity.

The office is responsible for social care and advocacy related to the following main areas:  life issues (abortion, palliative care and euthanasia), humanitarian needs (migrant workers, human trafficking, poverty, shut-ins, homelessness and addictions), religious freedom and other human rights, creation (ecological and environmental stewardship), Indigenous Peoples, racism and discrimination, prison ministry (restorative justice) and the economy.

Please stay tuned for updates as the office gets up and running.
